Join a webinar that aims to enhance legal literacy in adult social care by outlining key legal and policy developments.
The webinar is led by Dr Alex Cisneros at 39 Essex Chambers, and Turan Hursit at Old Square Chambers, both highly experienced barristers specialising in mental capacity, community care, and Court of Protection work.
Alex Cisneros is recognised for his expertise in complex deprivation of liberty and Mental Capacity Act 2005 cases, regularly advising and representing local authorities, NHS bodies, and families. Turan Hursit brings extensive experience in public law and community care, with a strong focus on the interface between legal frameworks and frontline practice. Together, they bring a depth of legal insight grounded in real-world application, enabling a practical, accessible exploration of legal and policy implications for adult social care.
Learning Outcomes
As a result of attending this event, participants will be able to:
- Understand key legal developments, including the implications of the landmark judgment in A Reference by the Attorney General for Northern Ireland [2026] UKSC 16 and other recent court decisions in adult social care.
- Identify emerging legislative and policy changes and how these interact with case law to shape practice.
- Recognise the practical impact of legal judgments on areas such as safeguarding, mental capacity, deprivation of liberty, and Care Act 2014 responsibilities.
- Apply legal and policy frameworks to complex situations, strengthening decision-making and professional judgment.
- Enhance justifiable practice by aligning actions with current law, guidance, and best practice expectations.
- Reflect on multi-disciplinary roles and how different professionals contribute to lawful, person-centred care in a shifting legal context.
